Red Barn was a HUGE success!!!! It was amazing :)
It was a TON of hard work that went into, but it was worth it. I think I Just took 6 years off my parents lives and I think they were ready to smack me a few times, but they never stopped helping me, they never stopped working and they did anything and everything I asked. There is ABSOLUTELY NO way I would have been able to do Red Barn without my family. No way! The amount of time and energy they all put in was insane. Like I said…I took years off people’s lives…years! I’m pretty sure everyone slept like rocks on Saturday night, I know I did!
Our weekend started on Thursday when I got into town around 4:30 and we didn’t stop until I left Kirksville this evening at 6:00. My poor parents :) Thursday and Friday were super busy with getting everything ready and I think the printer ran out of ink like 7 times. There was so much that went into it and so many little details to think about and I think my mom was right when she said it was like planning a wedding in a 10×10 tent. Me, my dad, my mom & Autumn were all up on the square by 6:15 Saturday morning to start setting up our booth. I was so nervous that we wouldn’t be set up in time and at one point I looked over and saw a guy unloading trucks full of pumpkins and I stopped for one second and said to my mom & Autumn, “Man, I wish all I had to set up were pumpkins!” I was actually mad at the poor guy because he only had pumpkins!! Can we say crazy??? Yes, I was a little crazy on Friday night and Saturday morning. But once we were set up and 9:00 rolled around and people started showing up I felt 100 times better. It was such a relief because I knew from that point on all I had to do was talk and I’m pretty good at that :) It was so much fun!!!! Completely and totally exhausting, but FUN! The amount of people that came by our booth was UNREAL. I can’t even describe what it was like, you just had to be there. I’ve never felt as confident in my photography, my ideas and what I was doing with my life as I did when I left Red Barn that evening. The things people said to me put the biggest smile on my face and sometime even brought tears to my eyes (which were conveniently hid by my sunglasses, ha!) . Complete strangers were telling me everything my family and friends have always told me, but it doesn’t really sink in until someone that doesn’t know you says the same exact thing. I booked 5 shoots, got a potential wedding (and just tonight I got an email about another potential wedding) and had TONS and TONS of sincere interest. We ran out of brochures by 12:00 and business cards by 2:30. IT WAS CRAZY!!! My family supported me the ENTIRE day. Allison & Andrew showed up at 10:00 with the kids, Autumn’s mom brought Briley up right after that, Molly showed up with the signs that I asked her to make (I didn’t really ask…I called her frantically and woke her up) and our good friend Kathy Powell showed up ready to do anything to help. They all stayed pretty much the whole day, even Andrew :) Briley & Ellie were a big help too! My dad had this awesome idea and we used those two for it. They wore Autumns tutu’s (which were for sale in the booth) and had sandwich signs on that said “Follow Me To Booth 88, Miss Prissiness” and Molly & her friend Heather walked them all around The Square. HOLY FREAKING CUTE!!! I think that might have been my favorite part :) They had strangers taking pictures of them as they walked around! We will definitely be using that idea again next year. My mom also made these awesome Vintage Witch Hat’s and they were a BIG HIT!! I heard so many people talking about them the whole day. She sold quite a few of them, but if you saw one and didn’t get a chance to get it just let us know. I think she has 7 left…well, maybe 6. I want one :)
Anyway- Like I said it was a HUGE HUGE success and I learned A LOT and I know what to do/not do for next year. THANK YOU SO “>SO SO SO SO SO MUCH TO ALL MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS FOR HELPING OUT!!!! I will never ever be able to repay you, but you will always get free pictures :)
I really need to go to bed because tomorrow is Monday and I watch Bella on Mondays and I have to be at their house by 7:00 AM, ugh! Sara, if you’re reading this…I was just kidding! I love getting up at 5:45!! BUT I can’t go to bed because I need to announce the winner for my Red Barn contest!!! You’re right it was unbelievably amazing and fun!
You had to be there to watch and listen as people discovered “Miss Prissiness”. The excitement and energy levels were almost tangible.
