Hey there! Just stopping in for a super quick post with random things I’ve forgotten here and there. This is very typical of me :)
First order of business……giveaway winner! I’m now using random.org to pick winners. It’s so much easier and guilt free.
Heidi, let me know what name you want printed and I will get them sent out with my second round of christmas cards…or the third round :) All the comments for my dad were so sweet and so him. He really is “simply the best” as my mom put it.
Next order of business…..Some of the items from our Etsy shop can now also be found at the Rue Lafayette Boutique in Lafayette Square!!!!! This was so exciting :) I’ve always wanted to sell our stuff in a boutique but I’ve just never gone as far to actually contact someone about it. Well, a couple weeks ago I got an Etsy Message from Ara Zimmer who owns Rue Lafayette and wanted to know if I would be interested in selling at her boutique. So awesome! Autumns Tutu’s & Caroline’s Jewelry are HUGE hits! They worked like mad women before Thanksgiving so they could have stuff to send back to St. Louis with me. Looks like I’m going to need more! I’m interested to see how everything does this coming weekend…it’s the Lafayette Square Holiday Parlor Tour and the businesses in the area usually get a ton of traffic. Go down and take a look if you’re in the area this weekend. They are located on Lafayette Ave right across the street from the Park House. It’s ADORABLE and it has a wonderful cafe attached to it.
Final order of business……..the recipes. The recipes that all my extended family have been waiting so patiently for. Well….not really so patiently. I’ve been getting lots of emails :) Here you go!
TO DIE FOR DIP: This dip is guaranteed to add some extra winter packing to your mid section. Seriously, reading the ingredients makes me kinda embarrassed to post this recipe. To top it off…you don’t even have to bake it! This is perfect for realllllllll lazy people, ha! It really is to die for :)
1 pkg. (8oz. size) cream cheese, softened
1 cup mayonnaise
3 chopped green onions
Ritz crackers
1 can Oscar Meyer real bacon bits
When ready to serve, microwave 4-5 minutes or until cheese is bubbly.
To serve, spoon dip onto plate and use crackers as your “chips”.
NOODLES: Oh the noodles, I already miss them but I will see them again at Christmas Dinner. I think I ate noodles for a week straight over Thanksgiving and I never got sick of them. They always tasted delicious. The noodles have to be done JUST right in order for them to be the way they should be. Some of you may know what I’m talking about, some of you may not. If you know what I’m talking about, then listen to me when I tell you that you’ve never had noodles until you’ve had my parents noodles. It’s serious business. It’s a very simple recipe, it just takes practice to perfect. The MOST IMPORTANT part of making noodles is using ACTUAL turkey broth. This means you have to ACTUALLY bake a turkey. This is what my mom sent me when I asked for the recipe:
First, you need to use the Betty Crocker Homemade Noodles Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose * or whole wheat flour
- 3 egg yolks
- 1 egg
- 2 tsp. salt
- ¼ to ½ cup water
- · * If using self rising flour, omit salt
Directions
- Make a well in center of flour. Add egg yolks, egg and salt. Mix thoroughly.
- Mix in water 1 tablespoon at a time, until dough is stiff, but easy to roll.
- Divide dough into 4 equal parts. Roll dough, one part at a time, into paper- thin rectangle on a well- floured cloth -covered board. (Keep remaining dough covered).
- Loosely fold rectangle lengthwise into thirds; cut crosswise into 1/8-inch strips for narrow noodles, ¼-inch strips for wide noodles. Shake out strips and place on a towel until stiff and dry, about 2 hours.
- Repeat with rest of dough.
We usually hang our noodles on a drying rack (a drying rack that was meant for clothes) and then put them in zip lock bag and freeze them. Once your done with your turkey, you are ready to make your noodles. Here is what my mom says about cooking the noodles. ” The secret is the turkey broth. We use a whole onion, 1 stick of butter and a couple pieces of celery in each turkey breast when we cook them. Then when I cook the noodles I add extra chicken & beef broth.” Obviously we take out the onion & celery sticks when we cook the noodles…those are just in the turkey for baking. It sounds pretty easy, but you have to constantly stir the noodles or they will stick. You also have to keep adding chicken or beef broth and salt & pepper until they taste just right. Good Luck!!!!

Thanks Lissy for the win. I really just wanted to tell that story about your dad. He’s a great man. I think that I would like the name Riley on the cards and I will give them to my mom for Christmas! I already have some cards left with Scheidler on them from last year when Allison gave them to me for Christmas. It’s a great idea! Thanks again!

I thought I was the only one who used my clothes drying rack for my pasta. So glad to know that I am not alone.
Do you do any thing special to clean it before you put your noodles on it. My mother in law loves my homemade pasta but she is always concerned about the germs they are getting on them while they are hanging around?
