ok- so I’m not good on updating :-) Actually, I didn’t have my computer and I couldn’t figure out how to do it via my phone.
So here’s the deal. The finally got him into his own room and settled by like 3:00 AM. I had taken Caroline & Molly back to the hotel around 2, but my mom and Sara didn’t get home till 3:30. They told us they would officially decide on surgery in the morning and let us know. Well my mom’s phone rang at 6:30 and they said they were going to surgery and they had an opening right away. We managed to get 5 girls (with 3 hours of sleep) up, ready & out of the door within 20 minutes.
Awesome :-)
His surgery went really well and they put in some metal plates & screws. After he left recovery, wasn’t nauseated anymore and had a chance to get some sleep, he said his shoulder and neck felt much better! They told us that if the surgery went well, we would more than likely go home that afternoon. Is that nuts?? A guy falls almost 10 feet, head first on to concrete, fractures his skull around his head, breaks his collar-bone, jabs his eyeball with his glasses, has to have surgery, multiple CT scans, and then…..get’s to go home in one day. We all banked on that (including dad, who was SO excited to go home)…we should have known it was too good to be true. After he woke up and was feeling better we gathered up all our stuff, checked out of the hotel, went and grabbed sandwiches for dinner and then went to go pick up dad….
Turns out his final CT scan showed a small subdural hematoma so they wanted to keep him overnight again and run a new CT in the morning. It’s definitely what’s best because you never know what’s going to happen with head injuries. Actually- he started to get head aches this evening, so we’re glad he’s still there. He was almost asleep when we left, so hopefully he’ll get a good nights sleep.
We made it back to the hotel around 10 and we’re thinking we’ll get an earlier CT scan and then be out of there by the afternoon.
Fingers crossed!!!!
Funny side notes from the grandkids reactions to hearing about papa getting hurt: Allison was explaining to Jackson what they were going to do during Papa’s surgery and she was telling him that the bone had cracked and then popped up and overlapped each other. So the surgeon was going to have to go in and line the bones back and place and put it together with a metal plate. Jackson sits there and (in his little voice that makes us all laugh) said, “yeah-they’re probably going to need a double screw for that!” and then walked off and went on his merry little way. Then Andy said that Briley got very concerned and in a very serious and stern voice said, “he neeeeeds to be tareful!”
Why yes Briley, you are absolutely correct! Those stories made my dad laugh :-)
I’ll try and post again tomorrow. Hopefully we will be on the rode sometime tomorrow afternoon!!
P.S.- sorry for all the typos (no worries, my sisters point them all out to me all the time). I was TIRED last night and I can’t even really remember what I typed….same type of deal with this post :-)

Wow, I had no idea. He is definitely in our prayers. My nephew Foster did almost the exact same thing last Friday. Fell out of our tree and was life flighted to Columbia with a broken collarbone and a fractured skull.

Will add Mike to my prayer list. I just got back from the lake as I joined Mark who had a law conference, so thought I’d catch up with the Early’s via your blog. Not what I wanted to see. I’ll add Foster (above) as well. Keep us posted on progress.
